Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception – Eoin Colfer

Posted on August 1, 2008

The Opal Deception is the fourth book of the Artemis Fowl series.

The evil pixie who tried to orchestrate the goblin rebellion in The Arctic Incident is supposedly in a coma in hospital. However, she is orchestrating the fake coma herself and is actually planning to cause a catastrophic discovery of the fairy world by the humans. She escapes undetected from hospital by planting a clone of herself in her hospital bed. After murdering Commander Julius Root and framing Holly Short for the murder, she launches a bio bomb attack on her other enemies Artemis Fowl and Butler who are both unaware of the danger due to the mind wipe Foaly subjected them to. Holly helps them to avoid the bomb and takes Artemis with her on her quest to clear her name and stop Opal. She is unable to force Artemis to override the mind wipe and they are captured by Opal and trapped in a troll-infested theme park. They are eventually rescued by Butler and Mulch Diggums who has the disk that can return Artemis’ old memories. Together, they foil Opal’s plot and bring harmony to the above and below ground societies.

Not as good as it’s predecessor, but definitely one of the better books in the series.
